The End of the Line

In the early hours of 11 November 2007 four Train Operating Companies (TOC's) disappeared from the railway map of Great Britain. Their distinctive logos, liveries and identities will eventually be erased, replaced by the new colours and ambitions of their respective successors.

Consigned to history are Central Trains, Midland Mainline, Silverlink Trains and Virgin Cross Country, to be replaced variously by London Midland, London Overground, East Midlands Trains and CrossCountry Trains. GNER had a temporary reprieve until 9 December when services transferred to National Express East Coast, completing the latest round of franchising changes.
